BIO — Born in Chicago and a homeowner in Hammond since 1993, Gene Sferruzza filled-in for Michael (“Stew”) Stewart on the “Stew for Lunch” radio program in June 2009. Later, he was a fill-in host on the “Preacher’s One-Man Show / Great Radio Experiment” from July to October 2009.
In November 2009, Gene began producing and hosting his own weekly radio program, which transformed into the current “Geno’s Buffet”.
Gene first got his hands on a guitar at age 12, and from 1964 thru 1969, was lead guitarist in “The Del-Rays”, playing gigs at high school dances, local talent shows and outdoor festivals. Starting to assert himself as a multi-instrumentalist in the mid-1970’s, he joined the “Porter County Line” band, a country-rock group based in Homewood, Illinois. Playing guitar, Dobro, pedal steel guitar and banjo, Gene remained a member of Porter County Line until 2001.
Prior to his on-air status at WJOB, Gene was a public access television producer in Hammond, producing, hosting and performing on the “Your Time” program. He co-hosted the “Quest for Knowledge” TV trivia show with former WJOB host Dave Innes, and was the audio engineer on Mayor McDermott’s “Hammond Tonite” television program.
