The City of East Chicago is in a State of Emergency

Press Release:
The City of East Chicago is in a State of Emergency due to a large water main break on Columbus Drive and Alder Street that occurred early Sunday morning.  This break has effected the entire city.  Water department crews are working with contractors to fix the problem.  If you know of elderly people who may need help or water please help them if you can or contact the Health Department at 219-391-8467. Emergency Management Director Herbert Cruz is working with various departments and coordinating efforts to ensure water is restored. During this state of emergency, water will be distributed at the East Chicago Police Department for residents on a first come first serve basis awhile supplies last.  The Health Department is distributing water for the Senior Citizen buildings and the Lake County Rehab Center.  Water is also being brought in to the city through the help of local agencies and businesses.   Until we resolve the water problem, we are asking that you conserve what ever water you have.  Once the water is restored we are asking residents to maintain the boil order on all water that is consumed for 48 hours after the problem has been fixed. We appreciate your cooperation during this time and will update you as quickly as possible until the water issue is resolved.
